Snowdonia is the crown jewel of North Wales riding. Home to the highest mountain in England and Wales, the national park is criss-crossed with spectacular roads — and in the early morning you will often have them entirely to yourself.
The Llanberis Pass
The A4086 through the Llanberis Pass is arguably the most dramatic road in Wales. Flanked by towering rock faces and scree slopes, it climbs through a glacially carved valley that feels ancient and immense. The bends are sweeping rather than tight — it flows beautifully on a bike.
Betws-y-Coed
This village in the Conwy Valley is the natural hub for Snowdonia riders. Good cafes, a helpful visitor centre, and roads radiating outward in every direction. It makes an excellent overnight base for a two-day Snowdonia loop.
Tips
Start early. The most popular routes attract tourist traffic from mid-morning onwards in summer. Watch for sheep on the road — they have no road sense whatsoever.
