Riding the Brecon Beacons: A Rider Guide

The Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales is a motorcyclist playground. Vast open moorlands, dramatic escarpments, and a network of quiet roads make this one of the finest riding destinations in the UK.

Key Roads to Ride

The A470 spine road cuts through the heart of the Beacons and is worth riding in full. The Black Mountain Pass (A4069) is one of the most dramatic routes in Wales, climbing steeply over open moorland with views that stretch for miles on a clear day. The Gospel Pass (B4423) near Hay-on-Wye is another highlight, narrow and framed by ancient uplands.

Where to Stop

Brecon town is a good base with plenty of accommodation and a strong cafe culture. For fuel, plan ahead as stations are sparse once you leave the main routes. Llandovery to the west is a reliable stop and a gateway to excellent back roads into Carmarthenshire.
